A Harshad number (also called a Niven number) is divisible by the sum of its decimal digits. The first Harshad numbers are 1–10, 12, 18, 20, 21, 24, 27, 30, 36, 40, 42, 45, 48, 50, 54, 60.

For example, 18 has digit sum 9 and 18 is divisible by 9, so 18 is Harshad. 19 has digit sum 10 but 19 isn't divisible by 10, so 19 is not.

The name was coined by D. R. Kaprekar; harshad means "giver of joy" in Sanskrit. Harshad numbers are base-dependent — a number Harshad in base 10 may not be Harshad in another base. There are infinitely many in any base. All-Harshad numbers (Harshad in every base) are 1, 2, 4, and 6 only.
